Final 2018 Farm Bill Includes Industrial Hemp Legalization

It’s official: we’re one step closer to federal legalization of industrial hemp in the U.S.

The final version of the 2018 Farm Bill includes language that would make industrial hemp products, including CBD easier to find and buy. The bill will also make hemp growing easier for farmers. Hemp’s inclusion was confirmed by the House Agriculture Committee today.

While senators and representatives on the Committee say there are still other details to iron out, hemp legalization will indeed be part of the final bill.

The bill is now in the Congressional Budget Office’s hands. After that, the House and Senate will vote on it. Then, it will go on to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

All hemp products will be legal under Farm Bill

In addition to the industrial hemp plant being officially removed from the Controlled Substances Act, and providing much needed clarity for all products made from hemp–including extracts. (All hemp products must contain 0.3% or less THC to be considered industrial hemp-derived.)

This means that more people nationwide will enjoy access to hemp CBD extract and the full spectrum of its nutritive benefits.

Beyond CBD, hemp legalization will open doors to education about the plant’s nutritional powerhouse properties and many eco-friendly uses. And make industrial hemp an agricultural commodity, giving farmers much needed certainty and access to benefits such as federal crop insurance.

Hemp seeds have been referred to as the most nutritionally complete food on Earth. Hemp protein is also a complete protein–the only plant-based protein in the world that contains all nine amino acids, a perfect ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, is mineral- and antioxidant-rich, and a good source of fiber.

Hemp can be used in construction materials, clothing, skin care, and body care products. It can also be used to make plastics.

CBD industry will continue to boom

Hemp CBD’s unprecedented, word-of-mouth rise to the top of the U.S. market made headlines this summer when the Brightfield Group predicted the niche would surpass the entire cannabis industry by 2022.

CBD is projected to grow into a $22 billion market over the next four years.
